Most people who join a multi-level marketing MLM company suffer from several misapprehensions:
*they think they will sit back and the money will roll in.
*they think they automatically know what to do.
*they think customers will come to them and asked them if they could please buy their product.
*they are totally unaware they are starting a business.
*those that are aware have no idea how to run a business.
*they are told one of the big advantages is they can set their own hours.

People think that means they can work a half-hour Monday, an hour Wednesday evening and a couple of hours a week om Thursday. Those that think things like that have no comprehension of business.

Yes, you can set your own hours. The two key words in that statement are, "set and hours". Every retail business has hours posted near the front door. If the sign says open from nine to six the store had better be open from nine to six or they will permanently lose customers. The store owner and/or his employees must have the discipline to have the stores opened the posted hours.

You must do the same thing. The only difference is you do not have a sign posted. You must have the discipline to follow a plan. If you decide you are going to work your business three hours a week you might as well forget its and go to a movie during the three hours.

In order to be successful and to achieve your dream you must set hours for yourself. The absolute bare minimum to be successful is one hour a day. You may say, "Oh, I just can't do that." Then you are not in business. Where can I find one hour a day you might ask.

If you are a homemaker with young kids that is difficult. Do you remember Erma Bombeck who wrote 14 books including, "The Grass Is Always Greener over the Septic Tank". She wrote them in 10 minutes spurts between diaper changes, dishwashing, laundry and other housework.

Those that succeed do not find the time, they make the time.

If you work full-time outside of the house you can work during your lunch time. If you get off at 5 p.m. you can work from then until 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m. 7 p.m. etc. It does not matter what time you work as long as you do it regularly and discipline yourself to ensure that you do it that way.

When you are at home fixing your presentation book, cleaning your desk, putting your paper clips in order, or doing anything else not directly involving a customer that time DOES NOT COUNT. these are business housekeeping chores and not income producing effort. When you are as successful as you can and will be you can hire someone for these chores.

The only time that counts is when you are peddling the product or talking to people about joining the company.

Whatever time you decide to do this at home you must make the rules and be in charge. You must have some visible signal such as a sign to let people know you are not to be disturbed. Enforce the rule. Teach the kids discipline. Insist your spouse handle the little problems. Do not allow anyone to bother you. Be sure your downline knows not to call you during this period. The only thing you do during this time is to follow up leads or to follow up people that you gave a sample to yesterday.

The people in your house must be instructed to not bother you even if the house is on fire. Train them to call 911, to direct the firemen to the fire and do not allow the firemen in to bother you until your time is up. That may be a slight exaggeration but you get the point, I hope.

Many will say, "I and two tired too come home and work like that. I have too much to do." I have no doubt that you do have too much to do. If you do not succeed in going for and achieving your dream successfully you will always have too much to do and you will never get out of this situation you are in. You must make sacrifices now for your dream to be achieved and you will be astonished how quickly that dream turns into reality.

If you do not do this you can not blame circumstances, me, the company, the product, or anything or anyone else. The responsibility is entirely yours. People that fail blame their failure on those things. People that succeed give the credit entirely to themselves as they should. The credit is for the discipline they had. Obviously they're downline help them achieve their success.

If you do not develop discipline you can bet your downline will not do it either except when you run a cross an exceptional person.
